West Jones took out a little bit of revenge Monday night, as they beat the Tigers 2-0. NEJ took an earlier game, giving West one more loss than Quitman. The Panthers will end up as the division’s runner-up.“Northeast Jones played a very good game, and they are well-coached,” said West head coach Craig Winship. “ We were fortunate to play our best.”

With less than 20 minutes to play, Zeke Baucum launched a direct kick towards the goal from about 30 yards away, and the ball slipped through the keeper’s hands and Juan Benitez followed the shot for the score.

About 10 minutes later, Adam Herrington sent a rocket-shot to the keeper, and again the ball got away and Gabriel Trujillo followed up with the goal.

“It just came down to the basics,” said NEJ head coach Larry Johnson. “West Jones proved their basic skills were better, and it came down to a few breakdowns on defense.”

West Jones improves to 10-10-1 overall, 4-4 in division play and will wind up the season hosting South Jones at 2 p.m. Friday.
