Laurel netters edge West Jones

The Laurel Golden Tornado tennis team edged West Jones 3-2 Tuesday afternoon at the Sportsplex.

In boys singles, West’s Matthew Martin defeated Andrew Cockrell 6-1,6-0. In girls singles, Laurel’s Hannah Burson defeated Stephanie Smith 6-0, 6-1.

In boys doubles, Laurel’s J.P. Asmar and Josh Agee defeated Mason Seidenberg and Tolbert, 6-2, 6-2. In girls doubles, West’s J.J. Benson and Mary Alice Howard defeated Anna Axton and Jillian McNeese, 6-3, 7-6.

In mixed doubles, Laurel’s Jeremy Purdum and Alexa Owens defeated Cade Sherman and Emily Tolbert, 6-1, 7-6.

Laurel, 4-0, hosts South Jones at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sportsplex. West Jones hosts Petal at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Jones Junir College.
